Current Response

As soon as the devastating August 2026 flood occurred, HAPSA launched an immediate medical and logistical response to the devastating floods to tackle the upcoming sanitation need. With 300 volunteers singed up, we procured items and made sanitation kits for families that could support for a month. Our dedicated team on the ground has already reached nearly 3,500 families, providing critical support for acute sanitation needs and conducting preliminary field evaluations and coordinating with various local partners as needed.

HAPSA also partnered with local Médecins Sans Frontières team to conduct a psychological first aid training for health providers who are directly caring for providers on the field.

Recovery & Resilience

Nepal is one of the most disaster prone countries in the world. HAPSA has previously worked with rural communities to conduct formal all-hazard disaster risk assessment, conducted community and hospital disaster drills, and has identified that early warning systems score the lowest when it comes to preparedness. Following the recent floods, HAPSA is further committed to to establish long-term safeguards in communities . We focus on strategic recovery goals that empower communities to withstand future climate challenges and other disasaters through locally informed resilience systems.

Early Warning Systems
  • Piloting advanced alert systems to give communities critical time to evacuate.
  • Planned formal field evaluations in late October to optimize sensor placement.
Community Health Responders
  • Equipping community health responders with essential skills for disaster response.
  • We will be incorporating PFA to our ongoing CHR programs going forward.
Locally Informed Strategy
  • Developing long-term recovery plans rooted in community feedback.
  • Strategic assessments scheduled for early December to scale proven resilience efforts.
